People First, Then Paperwork
Safety work is mostly in the field and sometimes at a desk, and the field is where it's won or lost. We spend our time with your superintendents, foremen, and crews, because a program only works when the people running the work believe in it. Knowing the standards is part of the job; managing people and relationships is far more of it.
When we recommend a change, we tell you what we found, where we found it, and why it matters, and we leave the decision about how your crews do the work with you. Our job is to help your team see clearly and act early, not to run your project.
OSHA Construction Work and EM 385-1-1 Work
Commercial construction work runs under OSHA's construction standards. Federal work under EM 385-1-1 adds the manual's own plans, designations, and submittals on top of them (paragraphs 2-7.a, 2-8.b(1), and 2-8.c). We work in both, and we can help a contractor who is moving from commercial into federal work understand what changes. Our EM 385-1-1 resources answer common contractor questions straight from the 2024 manual.
Optimum Safety is led by Kali Irvin, CSP, CHST (both through BCSP), currently an SSHO on a federal construction project under EM 385-1-1. We're a small business, which gives us more flexibility on schedules, durations, and coverage than a large firm usually has, and you work directly with the people doing the work.
For ongoing help without a full-time hire, there's our monthly retainer, and we teach the competent person and operator classes crews need, in person, at your site or another predetermined location.
